Bag Tapestry Crochet, Mochila Wayuu - Making the Base

Reminder:
The real Mochila Wayuu bags are crocheted bags, handmade by native tribe Wayuu. They come from the the northern peninsula of South America.

Here, please note that I am only talking about Mochila Wayuu lookalike bags. For ease, henceforth, I shall refer to them only as MW bags whenever possible.

Step One. I make the base for my MW bag before anything else. The number of stitches I end up with for the size I want (diameter) determines how many stitches I will have around the body of the bag. This also determines the number of stitches I will need for my graphed pattern.

FYI: I will be using Wayuu Bags, Mochila Bag, or Tapestry crochet bags interchangeably to mean the same thing.

Tapestry Crochet Bag - Cat and Fishes

This "Cat & Fishes" is one of my first tapestry crochet bag.  This is a one-off, no repeat design.  I drew and graphed the pattern, pulling from a number of sources of inspiration (see below). Unlike other tapestry crochet and also unlike Wayuu bags, this tapestry bag is done in the extremely strong and dense knit-sc stitch which produces the intriguing stockinette-looking stitch. I have included lots of metal bag hardware - coz' they always look so good on a bag, don't they?!!

Beaded Picture Crochet - What is it?

Beaded Picture Crochet – what is it? I can tell you coz I made up the term! There may very well be a “right” term for it out there, but I have not found it. If you know, please do comment and do tell.
