Crescent Moon Shawl CH0545 ๐Ÿ“’

I have been fascinated with crocheting the "crescent shawls" which drape very well due to their unique crescent shaping. I made a couple some many years ago but I really couldn't remember how I did it! (ah! Just found it again! - CH0494!! ๐Ÿคญ) This winter just gone, I finally used it and I really loved the drape and shape of it. So as a result, I wanted to redo the crescent type shawls and this time, I was determined to document and write up the pattern so that it can be easily accessed in the future.

It is very easy to make! And fun! I used a special stitch for this shawl which I call "inset dc filet crochet". I don't know if it has a 'real' name.

Crescent Moon Shawl (CH0545)

In truth, once you grasp the basic shape of these crescent shawls, you can reproduce it with any combination of stitches and colours you like. Actually this version is but one of the many ways to produce the delectable, drapable crescent shaping. It is it's shaping that creates a fabric form and structure that seems to want to curve, organically & naturally, around the neck and shoulders.

Below is a very rough rendition of how this shape is created.

FEATURES TECHNICAL FEATURES
  • natural and organic drape around neck and shoulders
  • a delight to wear
  • comfortable and stays on much better than normal, rectangular scarves or shawls
  • easy to make
  • accomodates different yarns (be it weight/texture/colours)
  • works up very quickly
