z.Stitch – which to use for Amigurumi?

November 12, 2017 by Helena Asmus Lim Filed Under: Crochet - How To, HOW TO

Single crochet (sc) stitch and/or its variations,  are the single most used stitch in crochet amigurumi, Wayuu bags, tapestry crochet.

Here my focus will be on which stitches I recommend for crochet amigurumi and crochet for Wayuu Mochila bags.

Note: for Amigurumi, and Wayuu bags, the work is almost always in a circular form.  Hence that is what I am looking at here: working sc in a circular form.

Let’s have a look at the variations of the sc.

z. Circular Strap Single Crochet – in the Round; how to

November 12, 2017 by Helena Asmus Lim Filed Under: Crochet - How To, HOW TO

I introduced the strap single crochet (ssc) in an earlier post.  However that was worked flat – to and fro; not circular. Today we will look at how to do the Circular Strap Single Crochet (cssc) or Strap Single Crochet in the Round.

When making amigurumi items or Wayuu bags, we almost always work in the round. So we need to modify this strap single crochet stitch so that we can use it for circular items.

z. Modified Shallow Single Crochet Stitch – How To

November 12, 2017 by Helena Asmus Lim Filed Under: Crochet - How To, HOW TO

Modified Shallow Single Crochet Stitch is a variation of the single crochet (sc) stitch which is very much like the modified single crochet stitch except it is more dense and has shorter rows.

Because this modified shallow sc stitch produces such a dense, no-hole fabric, it is ideal for amigurumi crochet because the stuffing won’t show through.

z. Modified Crochet Stitch, Wayuu Crochet, Tapestry Crochet – How To

November 12, 2017 by Helena Asmus Lim Filed Under: Crochet - How To, HOW TO

Modified/Wayuu/Tapestry crochet stitch – How To

I am not sure that Modified Crochet Stitch, being such a generic term, is the best nor correct name for this stitch.  However I will leave it as is, mainly because this video I will refer you to, calls it just that.

I also tend to call this Traditional Wayuu Stitch because this is the stitch most commonly used in making Wayuu Mochila bags.  It is also a common stitch in Tapestry Crochet.

z.Untwisted Chain Foundation for Circular Crochet

November 12, 2017 by Helena Asmus Lim Filed Under: Crochet - How To, HOW TO

How to Start with an Untwisted Chain Foundation

When you have to make a large circular crochet, starting with chain stitch foundation – one of the most annoying & hardest thing is trying to ensure that the long string of chain stitches is not twisted when you join end to end to form the foundation circle.

This easy, little trick solves the problem – ensuring that when you join a long string of chain stitches end to end to form a circle – there is no twisting.

May 1, 2017 by Helena Asmus Lim Filed Under: Crochet - How To, HOW TO, Knitting - How To

Mosaic Crochet vs Mosaic Knitting:  I have already talked about Mosaic Knitting Basics and then, What is Mosaic Crochet? (or what it isn’t).  So before I move on to talk about how to mosaic crochet, let’s have a quick look at the differences between Mosaic Knitting and Mosaic Crochet.

This is the Barbara Walker Mosaic Knitting Chart I worked off.
