z.Crochet Chart image bug

November 29, 2015 by Helena Asmus Lim Filed Under: Crochet - How To, General, HOW TO

Yesterday I posted about the free Crochet Chart software and pointed you to where you can get it. Since then, I have spent a number of hours playing around with it.  And sadly discovered it has a bug.  An image bug.

It is great that this newest version has the ability to allow you to insert an image.  I do need that for graphing my crochet stitches into colours (for doing beaded crochet).  However Crochet Chart has an image bug – where, once inserted, the image becomes “stuck”.  You cannot select, move, edit, or even delete it!  No good!

But the good news is I have found a workaround.  After many hours, let me say.  So if you are interested, you can find how to workaround the image bug in Crochet Chart software.

z.Free Crochet Charts Software

November 27, 2015 by Helena Asmus Lim Filed Under: Crochet - How To, General, HOW TO

I have been searching for a good crochet chart software for a long while now.  I think I have finally found one (named Crochet Chart Software) that will do much of what I need.  I have yet to use it fully but I wanted to give a heads up to anyone else who might be looking for just such a needful piece of software.  And the best news of all is that it is now free (open-source) – and available for both Windows and Mac users.

It is not the easiest thing to find on the net so if you are looking for a crochet charting software, I have written up “Crochet Charts Software – Where to Get?” for you convenience.

Crochet Charts v1-2

Now I better get on to learning more about how to use the software so I can actually produce the many half-formed crochet projects in my head.

Pauses: The Blessings and the Terror

July 18, 2015 by Helena Asmus Lim Filed Under: General

I have had a long pause from this blog (about 2 months now) as well as most internet activities.  Have been dealing with cancer, surgery, and now moving onto chemo therapy.

I don’t know when I will be able to jump back fully into the blog and online “life” … or if it will ever be the same.  This long and unexpected “pause” has been fraught with terrors but also most definitely, blessings.

New items will be posted as the creativity urges snap back in.

Namaste to all the creatives (and that means everyone!) out there!

This beautiful little blue birdie was gifted to me by Melisse and Bob, our very wonderfully caring neighbours.

z. Beaded Picture Crochet – What is it?

February 28, 2015 by Helena Asmus Lim Filed Under: General

Beaded Picture Crochet – what is it?  I can tell you coz I made up the term.  There may very well be a “right” term for it out there, but I have not found it.  If you know, please do comment and do tell.

Heads Up! Incomplete posts happening …

February 28, 2015 by Helena Asmus Lim Filed Under: General

inomplete-postsThis is a quick warning aka heads up.  Official notification: I am testing out new blogging “style”.  I am back-back-logged on my blogging.  One of the main impediments is trying to have all my ducks combed, waxed, and lined up in a row.  (That translates to having all the photos taken, edited, references found, tutorial steps ready.) Well, that ain’t working out so well.

So bugger it, I am just going to blog as I go … and if you are an early bird reader, you will find incomplete posts.  But (I think) I will have a better chance of getting my blogs done rather than having the thought of them sitting on the back-burner, waiting for the tardy ducks to get lined up.

This Incomplete posts or Blog-As-You-Go (BAYG) method commences on 28th February, 2015.  Notice has been served …

Kahaner Vintage Trims – Destashing

February 13, 2015 by Helena Asmus Lim Filed Under: General

You might have to come back more than once to eyeball and drool over the upcoming Kahaner vintage trims that I am finally putting up for destash (for now, only on Facebook closed group of Aussie Beaders Destash & Swap).  If you are an early bird/reader, you might not see much.  Unlike the normal post, this goes live before it is complete.  This will be a piece meal affair. I will add photos, one by one, as and when I complete photographing and listing each Kahaner vintage beaded trimming.

Felt Beads – Making Components

January 27, 2015 by Helena Asmus Lim Filed Under: General

Fuzzing around, making components.

Components Making

Sometimes there is just no time to write out how to and details.  Sometimes it is just done.  And has to be shown!

Making components, be it for jewelry or other unexpected quirks, is a pleasurable, useful, and engrossing engagement all on its own.

zz. Geometric Shapes: Tools for Beading

January 25, 2015 by Helena Asmus Lim Filed Under: General

I don’t know if I have mentioned this.  But for the last couple of weeks, my head has been so much into geometric shapes (only very basic shapes), that I feel as if I have talked (in my head) about nothing else! I am gathering tools for beading .. and crafting … and mix media work.  And right now, geometric beaded shapes and how to achieve them have taken one of the central stages.  (Yes, I do have a number of central stages going at one time.  Which explains the wuzzy, fuzzy, dizzy feeling in my head!)

Long (long) ago, I read/heard/was told that “You have to know the rules to be able to bend them.”  I must have been a teenager.  My only inner response was incomprehension and a determination to break rules.

“You have to know the rules to be able to bend them.”

Book Depository – Thumbs Up

January 13, 2015 by Helena Asmus Lim Filed Under: General

I would like to give a big thumbs up to Book Depository.  I ordered a book from them just a week ago and it has already arrived.  With free postage (as are all the books from Book Depository).  All the way from UK.  That is what I call fast, speedy service.

Plus their packaging is always sturdy.  And if you keep your eye(s) out, many a time, their books are cheaper than what you can get elsewhere.  And have I said … free shipping? Yup, Book Depository, you get my thumbs up!

Mom’s Bling Bilinga necklace

November 28, 2014 by Helena Asmus Lim Filed Under: General

I wanted to make something for my mom. I turned to my talented friend Di Parsons, owner of Bling Bilinga Beads for some help.  And she created this pendant with the most adorable colours for me.
