z.Jewelry Pliers and Cutters

May 24, 2015 by Helena Asmus Lim Filed Under: JEWELRY MAKING INFO, Jewelry Making Tools

Jewelry Pliers and CuttersThe many different jewelry pliers and cutters available can make it confusing as to what to buy and use. Here we will attempt to throw some light on the differences.

By the time you land here, I am sure that you already have some jewelry pliers of your own. And you might have come across some other specialized ones you are wondering of, if not desirous for. I don’t blame you coz I love mine, I want to have more. And it is because the right ones can make such a Big difference to your finished product. AND it makes the jewelry making (or craft work) so much more enjoyable.

z.Crimping Pliers: How to use

May 24, 2015 by Helena Asmus Lim Filed Under: HOW TO, JEWELRY MAKING INFO, Jewelry Making Tools, Misc - How To

crimping pliersEven though you can use Flat Nose Pliers to crimp your crimp beads, until you begin to useCrimping Pliers, you won’t really know how much more professional crimping pliers will make your finished art-piece. The Crimp Plierswill help curve your crimp beads so that the wearer of your jewelry piece will not feel any sharp & annoying edges; which lessens the value of your jewelry.  If you have never used Crimping Pliers, it may take a bit of practice to get the hang of it but it will be worth every effort – to you and your customers/jewellery recipients.

zz.How to Use Hex Anvil

March 6, 2015 by Helena Asmus Lim Filed Under: HOW TO, JEWELRY MAKING INFO, Jewelry Making Tools, Misc - How To, Wire Work Tips

Hex Anvil for riveting

Hex Anvil for riveting

My first hex anvil.  In preparation for the exciting times of making some cold connections with rivets. (Big grin!)

This is a hexagonal steel anvil.  It is used as a base for riveting, drilling, and staking small parts.  It has been cased harded for long life.  It has 15 holes and 5 slots (of varying thickness for making rivets).  Measures 2inches, corner to corner.  7/8inch thick.  (Model: AN200, made in India).

Now, the next important question: how to use the hex anvil?

z.Xuron Flush Cutter with Wire Retainer

March 3, 2015 by Helena Asmus Lim Filed Under: JEWELRY MAKING INFO, Jewelry Making Tools

Now what is a wire retainer?  (Wire retainer is also sometimes described as “lead retainer” – not that that explains what it is!)  Well, first of all — wire retainer is a darn cool feature!

But before I go into that, let me just say that I, like so many people, am a big fan of Xuron.  If you look on Amazon reviews, you will find that almost invariably, Xuron products get a very high rating.  Deservedly so.  I have slowly accumulated some Xuron pliers and cutters.  Not one has been disappointing.

Xuron pliers are made in USA.

z.Dremel Accessories – Explained

September 30, 2014 by Helena Asmus Lim Filed Under: JEWELRY MAKING INFO, Jewelry Making Tools

When I got my fascinating Dremel Stylus, I was in love. But confused.  My Dremel Stylus came with a box of accessories.  But what in golly geez were they for?  And how do I use those Dremel accessories? There was no manual.  So, I have researched and results can be seen in Individual Dremel Accessories Explained.

z.Dremel Stylus – Do you Need one?

September 29, 2014 by Helena Asmus Lim Filed Under: JEWELRY MAKING INFO, Jewelry Making Tools

I have always wanted a Dremel. Well, not actually “always”. But ever since I started seeing so many people & crafty friends mentioning a Dremel. They throw out the name “Dremel” as if the Dremel was such an item like Bosch that anyone hearing the name, would know it. I didn’t. And yet I wanted one. And I didn’t even know what it could do. But I wanted a Dremel.

When my Dremel arrived, I loved it at first sight.
