Brioche Crochet Beanie (CH0540) 📒

After clarifying for myself as to the difference between Brioche Crochet vs Short Row Crochet, I had the urge to work on some simple brioche crochet stitches. So this here are the results of three beanies, using different yarns, and colours.

FEATURES
TECHNICAL FEATURES
  • thick, stretchy, & cushy
  • fully reversible
  • can be worn with or without a fold-over brim
  • simple form of Brioche Crochet
  • any DK/8ply yarns
  • minimum of 2 colours

rough draft for Sm-Med sizing

So far, I have made three versions:
• two in Medium to Large;
• one in Large.

All using DK/8ply yarns. Each using different brands of yarn.

Let's look at some photos of beanies #1-3.

More Details on Beanie 1

I will just have a bit more to say about this one as this was the first cab off the rank. And I like it most especially.

I trialled this with oddments and scraps of leftover yarns. The little balls are mostly acrylics (Stylecraft, Dazzle, Paintbox, etc.)
This multi-hued, variegated yarn however is 100% wool. Which is wonderful for warmth and it does have rich, warm colours. However, I must remember to add a "Hand wash only" label to this beanie. I don't know where though as it is reversible!!!
My copper curved metal label sits very nicely on the beanie. It is always a pleasure when it sits well!
I just love the texture, feel, and look of this Brioche Crochet fabric.

It is however done in the round. I must have more experiments so that I can do this on the flat as well.
I am actually a bit more enamoured with the look on the other side.

I will have to design something in future using this look!
Actually, the lines running vertical is what I like best.

More future experiements!!!
Note to Self: Brioche Crochet is very much like interlocking crochet. They pretty much start the same way. The biggest difference is that with Brioche Crochet, we are making use of Front Post dc rather than plain dc.
This easy method of clinching the top works. But I must admit I am not enamoured with it.

More future experiments!!!

This should be very warm as it is made from Bendigo Woolen Mill's 100% wool. And the added bonus is that it is machine washable so no fear of felting and shrinkage! 😁

Summary Steps

These are highly truncated steps. They are mainly a reminder, (mostly so I don't need to resort to the full pdf ㊙️), of the core steps.

After foundation row (usually MM Cast-on), 1 round of filet crochet.

(Very much like the start of my Interlocking Crochet).
Then with second col, another round of filet crochet, working dc into ch-spaces of prev. row
Thereafter, working in found of filet crochet with FPDCs.

• Always leave inactive yart at Front of work.
• Always end each round by starting a standing FPDC in readiness ...
